Our Story
Rogue Sunflower Atelier has long lived in the heart of our maker, Ariel Riccardi. Since her return to Montana, it's finally found the soil to take root — and an inspiring, supportive community to grow alongside.
What began with English Paper Piecing and basic hand sewing is expanding into a growing menu of workshops, kits, and opportunities for local makers to share their own crafts in support of creativity, life skills, and the kind of slow-made peace that imbues the very air around us here.
We believe everyone — local or just passing through — deserves a chance to try something new, remember the hand skills of old, and experience them in the particular magic that happens when you slow down and find a little of Montana's beauty taking shape in your own hands.
Meet the Maker

My name's Ariel. I was raised in Montana and spent the last decade and a half maturing in the metropolitan, mountain, and desert bohemia of Colorado. I explore the fiber arts, sewing, fashion, and self through natural materials, texture, and sustainable creativity.
If you’re drawn to the haptic, the intentional, and the me-made, I hope you’ll feel at home here—or at least like you’ve stopped by the home of your friend-most-likely-to-be-complicit-in-shenanigans.

Which seems a fitting path into Sunflower — a plant whose bloom turns toward the sun as it moves across the sky. That observable loyalty to warmth and light gives the sunflower its meaning: unwavering adoration, optimism, personal growth, and the will to overcome. Many sunflowers also offer a stabilizing structure, supporting other plants toward the light. And they offer sustenance to even the littlest sparrows.
Rogue as a word carries its own range of meanings, some of which resonate deeply with my own experience of self — someone who perhaps flouts accepted norms or strikes out on an independent path. I follow the starry sun of love, passion, and learning.

Why "Rogue Sunflower"?
Rogue was born into our family and she shared almost 19 years of life with me. She was one of the most beautiful cats I've ever known — sweet in personality and unhurried in her way of being. Especially as she got older, she was happiest held or sitting in the sun. We were all wrapped around her little paws. She would meow to be let in the front door only to walk the short way through the house to catch the later sun on the back deck.
Sometimes that leads me blundering through life like a renegade elephant. More often my path is quieter — pausing to admire flowers, the steady stitch by stitch, the playful mischief hiding even in the English language.
So in that combination lives my aspiration — to offer strength, warmth, nourishment, and love to my own wandering whims and to those who travel far and cry for rest. That respite to be found in slow intentional craft and curiosity.
